Help Us Welcome Back Travis Dixon (’92)

Professor Travis Dixon is thrilled to be rejoining the Communication Studies family.  Professor Dixon graduated from UCLA in Communication Studies and received his Ph.D. in Communication from the University of California, Santa Barbara.  Afterwards, Dr. Dixon worked as an assistant professor of Communication at the University of Illinois.  In the Fall of 2011, he returns to UCLA as a member of the ladder faculty.Professor Dixon is a media effects scholar dedicated to investigating the prevalence of stereotypes in the mass media and the impact of stereotypical imagery on audience members.  Much of Dr. Dixon’s work has been focused on racial stereotyping in television news.  His new investigations examine the content and effects of stereotypes and counter-stereotypes in major news events, online news, and musical contexts.
