Commencement 2010
The 2010 Comm Studies commencement was held on Sunday, June 13th, in Royce Hall. 1635 guests watched in the sold-out hall as Comm Studies graduated 215 majors: our largest graduating class ever. We had 33 grads elected to Phi Beta Kappa (the highest proportion of any department on campus) and 12 students graduated with departmental honors. This year’s keynote speaker was Comm Studies alumnus Alan Nierob, Senior Vice President of Rogers and Cowan, one of the biggest and best public relations firms in the country. Nierob talked to graduates about how his career path was affected by the lessons he learned and the choices he made while at UCLA. Nierob also described how he worked his way up through the public relations world through one of its most transformative periods.Continuing our departmental tradition, Asher Luzzatto was selected from a field of outstanding candidates as our student speaker. Luzatto spoke movingly about his experiences at UCLA and on an aid trip to Haiti, and helped inspire graduates to make a difference in their communities and the broader world. Thanks to all who helped make Commencement 2010 a great success, and congratulations to the Class of 2010!
