Biography

Dr. Rob Carpenter is a UCLA Faculty Member, Best-Selling Author & Novelist,  Filmmaker, and Public Intellectual who thinks, writes, speaks, and teaches across a variety of fields, including mass communication, film and animation, and politics and society, including on issues of public and mental health. He has written scholarly pieces for the Harvard Journal of Public Health and Oxford Business Review as well as published popular press books including The 48 Laws of Happiness, Icons & Legends, and Red Carpet Manuscript. He is currently completing several new manuscripts.
As a doctoral student at the University of Southern California, Dr. Carpenter worked with the 2x Emmy Award Winning USC Media Institute for Social Change, as well as on sets for Netflix, HBO, Warner Bros, and Fox, among others, and, as a M.A. student at Northwestern University, focused on issues of global economics and public policy. He has has also taught at the Syracuse University in Los Angeles’s Hollywood film program,  the Boston Congress of Public Health’s Public Health Academy, served as Commissioner of Transportation for The City of Los Angeles (where he oversaw 2,000 employees and a $500,000,000 annual budget), sat on numerous boards of directors, holding various leadership positions, and served as Founder, Chairman, and CEO of an acquired private-equity funded startup. His scholarly, public service, and artistic interests aim to empower people, institutions, and society to advance toward a more healthy, self-aware, empathetic, and successful future, marked with more personal power, less social tension, and increased pluralistic solutions that solve wicked problems facing people and humanity.
Dr. Carpenter is known as both a Renaissance Man (a Polymath) and Renaissance Thinker, seamlessly blending multiple academic and professional fields in an interdisciplinary and trans disciplinary way. He has spoken countless times as a keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, and panel moderator, and through various conferences, digital shows, and projects he has interviewed hundreds of top professionals, including Hollywood producers, directors, U.S. cabinet officials, global NGO CEOs, celebrity fitness trainers, professional athletes, and beyond, about the biggest and most important questions in life and society. His feature film, television, and artistic projects are represented by the Hollywood firm Good Life Management.
