Why did you choose Comm Studies as your major?

From the moment I began taking classes at UCLA, I knew that Communication Studies embodied an interdisciplinary practice that was geared at building skills for success. Not only was Communication Studies and, specifically, Mass Communications, focused on the career choices I was working toward; but the major taught me about interpersonal interaction, relationship dynamics--both professionally and personally--and how to navigate the working systems and social practices within our evolving world.

Favorite UCLA memory and/or professor

The journey was just as important as the destination: graduation. But receiving that degree, and looking at my family supporting me in the seats of Royce Hall, was the best feeling as of yet in my life.

How has Comm Studies empowered you in your professional and personal life?

Comm Studies has equipped me with the tools, resources, network and preparedness to tackle dynamics ranging from everyday communication to long-term strategic communication. It has prepared me for a workforce that demands excellence and empowered me to reach for opportunities based on my knowledge, foundation, and abilities.

What was the most valuable or applicable lesson you learned from a Comm Studies class?

My favorite Communication Studies classes were interdisciplinary in nature--specifically, one's that crossed over with my minor, Women's Studies. These classes taught me about the importance of empowerment, equality, and how to pave my path of success as a woman in our world. I've had to call on lessons post-grad and don't think I'll ever stop revisiting the pillars and principles I took away from these courses.

What advice would you give to a current Comm Studies student?

Apply your lessons to your life. What you read in books, what you discuss in class, who you meet, what you write papers on, and how you test are all greater lessons in your path to success. Take them for more than face value and always find the true meaning in your trials and triumphs. It's all divine.
